The Supreme Court of the United States as made it law: There is a God. Knowing how wise those guys are, I will no longer have an open mind to any other thought! At least the Supreme Court did not order the kid to attend church. That would only happen in Oklahoma (The land of the formerly free)!
The United States Constitution guarantees all Americans the right to practice any religion they choose. Add to that, most Americans, myself included, are tolerant of just about any religions of the world.
What the hell was I thinking, I thought I had freedom of religion, or not to practice any religion at all. I WAS WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! I thought after 20 years in the Air Force my mandatory prayers would stop (almost every Air Force official function starts with 'the invocation'). I was wrong again! Okay, for the record, I do live in Oklahoma now, and by default, I am a Christian. The state will not openly say it, but if you are going to live here you should at least pretend to be one. It makes the "born again" feel better. So for the record, anytime some one wishes me to pray with them, this is what I will be praying "Oh God! I hope the next Pope is not a pedophile or child rapist!" I will be doing this out loud!
Once was the time that I believed everything in the bible was probably true at the time it was written. But with metaphors and slang, just like we talk and write now. But given that fact that this is the same bible that has been handed down from the Catholic church, I no longer have any confidence that it was ever true. Most people will not touch this with a ten foot pole, but I will say it. The Catholic church is DEAD WRONG to support and hide child rapists. And the Pope is the leader of this sick organization. If you take your children to a Catholic church, and he or she gets raped, do not act surprised. The Pope is a pedophile and that is why he is leading! That is why he is hiding the rapist from police and parents!
Some of our leaders have learned that there are a growing number of "Non-Christians" in the USA, and we (our leaders) will NOT tolerate that at all. if we have to print Christian overtones (such as "In God We Trust") on every piece of money to spread the word, we will! Folks, even if you are a good Christian, you may not force others to adopt your ways! All of the "In God We Trust" nuts in this country will not change my mind on such things. It does seem logical that if we all spend money that states "In God We Trust" then it must be true?
Some one suggested that if I don't like "In God We Trust" stamped on our money then I should leave the country! "In God We Trust" is the most inappropriate statement ever made by the US mint. It is pretty big of our government to assume that we all have Christian beliefs!
The very freedom to pray anywhere one wants to in America is a given. But the idea that some religions have to stop class so they may pray is not American. I don't want to pray a minute before class. I need everyone in the class to pray with me. Ummm...
A moment of silence is much the same as "In God We Trust", that is to say, it assumes that we are all Christians. Christians are almost the only people served by a "moment of silence", and the powers that be (in government) know that very well.
Let me ask you several questions:
Is your belief such that you really must have the first minute of class on hold just for you to pray? You couldn't have prayed before class? You couldn't have prayed before school or work?
Is your belief in your religion so shallow that it must be seen by your classmates and co-workers?
Is your God, so un-forgiving that if you miss the first 60 seconds of class with him, you are going straight to hell?
Is your church so far into converting others, that you may not wait till after school or work to pray?
A mandatory moment of silence is stupid! Who the hell is going to enforce it! "Excuse me teacher, I had a non-Christian thought about you!" Well, I guess we could get some Religious Police like they have in other countries. Wow, that'll give Pat (and other born again nuts) an erection.
Finally, I would love to see everyone have the freedom to pray in school if it is their wish. But I mean if you accommodate anyone, then you must accommodate EVERYONE! This includes Muslim prayers that stop everything 5 times a day for 15 minutes at a time. This would have to include all of those that worship Satan, Voodoo, and yes, even those practicing witchcraft.
I believe in a true freedom to practice religion in schools as long as you will accommodate ALL. Let's face it, most of us are not tolerant enough to endure 'non-Christian stuff at all!
So, with my all or none attitude, it seems the only sane course is none.
It is this type of policy and law that give birth to groups like the Wacko's of Waco, Those folks in California that caught their spaceship (or not), and countless other groups!
Yes we have freedom of religion, to include keeping it private! I will never ask everyone at work or school or anywhere else to pray with me. Maybe some people need that kind of structure to re-enforce their beliefs? If you are one that feels that way, then go to church, don't drag my ass with you!
I cannot believe the state of Oklahoma has a mandatory minute of prayer in public schools. This is a new development. And to add insult to injury, this is a Christian prayer time! Yes you heard me right. For the first 60 seconds you will talk to god or we will throw your ass out of school! Yes, Oklahoma. The whole damn state! I actually do not know what the punishment is if you don't honor the BS rule, but I hope that King Pat, takes it easy on me:) It is true, you may not miss the first minute of class either! This is of course, officially being called a moment of silence so has to not piss off the supreme court. I guess all or none is not going to apply as long as the Jane Fonda, born-again types are running the show! I guess we could get religious police like they have in Saudi to enforce this! It could be worse, the Saudi's stop 5 times a day. But at least they admit that Islam is their only legal church.
Yes Oklahoma Parents! The first minute of your kids class day will be spent learning what you and your church failed to teach your kid! I guess, the state needed government to do something fast, their had been reports of non-Christians in our public schools. We will not kick them out of school for non-Christian believe, but we better convert them while they are young. Kind of like the Hitler-Youth.
As long as nut jobs are in control, well, garbage in, garbage out! Yes this the home of the (previously) free!
